Squier by Fender Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Fretless, 3 Tone Sunburst
Disciples of groove will severely dig Squier’s elegantly slinky new Vintage Modified Jazz Bass Fretless, which fuses the warm, expressive voice of an upright with the defined attack of an electric. The no-pickguard, Three-color Sunburst finish is a classic, and the lightweight agathis body is home to a pair of single-coil Duncan Designed™ Jazz Bass pickups. The special one-piece maple neck has a fretless Ebonol fingerboard with white celluloid lines that let you know where you’re at! Other features include a four-saddle chrome bridge, and chrome hardware and machine heads.
With so many on offer these days, it is great to have a name you can trust. This item is certainly that and will be a perfect buy. The distributor have added some great touches and this equals great value.

That Jaco Looks, that jaco sound!
This bass must be the closest to a Jaco Pastorius bass sound I've ever heard for the price!
It sounds very 'fendery' meaning it has some bright in there!
The tone pot also sounds great to make the bass sound more mellow!

It looks like a vintage, and for the price it really does a great job!

I would definitely recommend this as a primary bass for beginners, even more advanced players.
And believe it or not, but I would advise this bass even to pro's as an inexpensive backup bass, or one you can take to those rainy mud festivals to play!

This bass belongs in the $400-600 category; and I've heard some +$1000 basses sounding worse than this one!

Compared to my Fender Jazz Bass, this one sounds a tiny bit harsher (easily muffled by an eq), due to it's poly- neck. A Poly neck comes very close to a graphite neck, but produces slightly more harsh ~2-4kHz frequencies, than the graphite (4-6kHz); and less warm than a wooden neck (very...
Nice bass that requires commitment
Although I'm primarily a guitarist, I spent a lot of time on bass as well--primarily jazz and standards. After a multi-year hiatus without a bass, I decided it was time to get back in the game. Perhaps it's my contrarian nature or just my evolving taste, but the five and six string monster basses have little attraction for me. I wanted a bass that could play and sound like a real acoustic bass. One look at the pricing of a 'true' Fender jazz sent me scurrying to the Squier side of the shop. What a pleasant surprise. I've played a few Squier basses and not been impressed, but this one's different. Perhaps a less common model gets a little more attention. Whatever the reasons, this is a quality instrument. Components are solid and the finish--while not quite what you might get with the Fender badge--is still very, very good. The absence of the pick guard gives it a distinctive appearance, too.

Of course the factory strings are all wrong, but isn't that always the...
